FEM Team

We are a diverse, multilingual team of chemists, materials scientists, and engineers designing intelligent polymer and molecular materials for next-generation electronics. From a materials-first, device-aware perspective, the FEM team synthesizes well-defined monomers, polymers, and hybrids and couples them to function via thin-film processing and lean device readouts. Core research areas include soft & sustainable polymer electronics (stretchable semiconductors, OMIECs, low-loss dielectric composites), functional interfaces & hybrids (NHC-linked Au nanoparticles, conjugated interlayers, water-processable inks), and the rational design of molecular machines (electrically responsive molecules with controlled surface motion).

Our work is embedded in the DFG Clusters of Excellence: BlueMat – Water-Driven Materials and REC² – Responsible Electronics in the Climate Change Era and in two EIC Pathfinder projects – FITNESS – Flexible IntelligenT NEar-field Sensing Skins and ESiM – Energy Storage in Molecules. We collaborate broadly with device specialists and industry partners to translate discoveries into reliable, manufacturable materials stacks. The group is committed to structured mentoring, inclusive practices, and hands-on outreach that brings polymer electronics to schools and the public.
